The Halifax Climate Investment, Innovation and Impact Fund (HCi3) support carbon-reduction initiatives in the Halifax/Kjipuktuk region and across Nova Scotia through scalable, community-focused solutions that advance social equity, Reconciliation, and broader community and environmental benefits.

Founded in 2020 as part of the Low Carbon Cities Canada (LC3) network, HCi3 operates as a subsidiary of EfficiencyOne, leveraging national and local expertise to drive innovation and knowledge-sharing.

Position Summary 

We are seeking a Manager, Climate Finance to lead financial analysis, due diligence, and the structuring of impact investment opportunities in the Halifax/Kjipuktuk region and beyond. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager will help build HCi3’s investment pipeline, assess opportunities, and develop investment recommendations. The role will also provide financial expertise to support innovative financing models, endowment growth, and the attraction of additional capital.

Key Responsibilities 

• ·         Lead financial analysis for potential impact investments, including financial, technical, and organizational due diligence; risk assessment; feasibility; mitigation strategies; and long-term sustainability.
•          Explore innovative financing strategies that accelerate climate action and attract additional capital, including community bonds, energy-as-a-service models, and other partnership-based approaches.
•        Work with project proponents, consultants, investors, financial institutions, and funding partners to structure financing solutions, including loans, lines of credit, and equity investments.
• Support climate finance activities through stakeholder engagement, partnership building, and project pipeline development.
• Support efforts to grow HCi3’s endowment by identifying funding opportunities, preparing materials for funders and partners, and contributing to proposals and business cases.
• Monitor, evaluate, and report on the financial and impact performance of HCi3’s investments.
• Prepare investment proposals, pitch decks, briefing materials, and other investment-related documentation as required.
• Support the Executive Director with HCi3’s strategic plan, annual business plans, and quarterly and annual reporting.
• Conduct research and environmental scanning to inform programming and financing mechanisms, and identify emerging opportunities, trends, and best practices.
• Recruit, supervise, and support interns and/or staff, where applicable.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications 

• Post-secondary education in Business, Finance, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• An MBA, CFA, or other relevant professional designation would be considered an asset.
• Minimum five (5) years of experience in financial modeling, financial analysis, capital budgeting, and financing solutions.
• Experience in commercial banking, impact investing, project finance, or a related field would be considered an asset.
•  Experience, knowledge, or established networks in climate, clean technology, sustainability, or community economic development would be considered an asset, particularly within Halifax Regional Municipality and Atlantic Canada.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial and technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with sound financial judgment and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders, funders, partners, and community organizations.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, Reconciliation, and inclusive engagement practices.

Location/Hours 

This is a 37.5-hour-per-week position based in the Halifax Regional Municipality. An office-based or hybrid work arrangement is available. The role will involve engaging with people across the city and province, including attending in-person meetings and events. Access to a personal vehicle is not required. The HCi3 office is located within EfficiencyOne’s Burnside office.
